Golf can descend into a frustrating trudge when your ball-striking is poor. Whether you’re catching it fat, thin or, heaven forbid, shanking it, the enjoyment of the game is severely compromised.

Help is at hand, however. In this golf lesson, PGA Professional Chris Ryan analyses the movements required to take your ball-striking to a different level.

One of the common problems suffered by golfers who struggle with their ball-striking is that the lead shoulder pops up too early and too quickly. As a result, that pushes the upper body backwards and forces the weight onto the back leg.

As a simple way of combating this and improving your technique, Chris suggests putting a towel under your lead foot and practicing pushing as hard as you can on that foot in a swinging motion.

Chris also looks at controlling the clubface during a series of comprehensive drills that should lead to more satisfying striking.
