Two-time DP World Tour winner and 2008 Ryder Cup player Oliver Wilson reflects on the positive impact PGA Professionals have had on his career.

Wilson was encouraged to take up the game through his father aged 10 and he was soon having lessons with a PGA Professional. He was immediately hooked on golf.

“When you start out in golf, you don’t know anything,” said Wilson. “You see on TV what the players do, but as all golfers know, what we think we do and what we actually do is completely different.

“To go and see a PGA Professional who can nudge you in the right direction, give you a bit of guidance, keep it fun, not get caught up in all of these technical thoughts, we do enough of that ourselves. I think the PGA Professionals do a good job in simplifying it and keep nudging you in the right direction.

Find you nearest PGA pro and book a golf lesson

Spend the money, go have a lesson with your PGA Professional and get something tailor made for you. It’s going to pay dividends.

“Golf is such a great game to meet people and building relationships and I think the PGA Professional, the members and the amateurs is the fundamental relationship that gets you going in golf, so they (PGA Professionals) bring a huge amount to the game.”

Wilson recommends all people playing the game should consider booking a lesson with a PGA Professional.

“Spend the money, go have a lesson with your PGA Professional and get something tailor made for you. It’s going to pay dividends. Invest a little bit in yourself. It’s definitely worth it.

“I see so many people try and pick things up off the internet and it doesn’t always apply to them. Get something tailor made for you and go enjoy it!”
