One of the most fundamental - and often overlooked - aspects of a solid golf swing is the grip. How you hold the club sets the stage for everything that follows, from your backswing to your ball flight. In this video, Gareth Johnston speaks to PGA Play to break down the correct way to grip the club so you can build a more consistent, powerful, and controlled swing.

Remember your homework!

  1. With your glove hand (if you’re a right handed golfer, this will be your left hand) cradle the little finger around the grip and gently pull your thumb up so it’s in line with the knuckle of your index finger
  2. The fleshy pads of your right hand sit on the underside the grip. Wrap your right hand over.
  3. Start to hit little half shots softly, hitting the floor. This will get you used to the feel of the grip.
